Do you have overgrown and unusable parts of your property? Are you looking to clear a section of land quickly and effectively, without the use of fire or multiple machines? Forestry mulching in NC is a great tool for controlling the growth of the understory, improving the soil conditions, as well as increasing overall property value. Furthermore, it provides many benefits for wildlife as well as the land itself. All the chippings are left behind on-site allowing them to decompose slowly and release vital nutrients back into the soil.
Wildlife is lovely to observe in its natural habitat. However, when some species take up residence in stormwater systems, they can quickly wreak havoc. Muskrats, beavers, and geese are especially harmful to carefully designed systems. How do these animals affect your ponds, and what nuisance wildlife control measures can be implemented?
Planting food plots for wildlife is THE best strategy for keeping wildlife happy, healthy, and on your NC property! Food plots provide vital nutrition for deer, turkeys, doves, and much more. They promote antler growth and solid nutrition for the deer who use them over the year. At our Raleigh, NC retail store, we provide fall and spring plot options with their own mixes that can be planted at different times throughout the year. These plots give wildlife the nutrition they need to thrive depending on the weather conditions outside.
The leaves on the trees are gorgeous at this point in autumn, creating a landscape of bright yellow, red, and orange. Soon though, the leaf drop will be in full swing. Since stormwater ponds sit at a lower elevation than the surrounding land, leaves tend to end up in them.
A long-time maintenance client was having issues with the fountain that they had in their pond for a long time. The existing fountain line was set to be discontinued by the manufacturer due to better more efficient models available now.
Do you have issues with leaves getting into your koi pond? Nets can be a quick and inexpensive solution and may reduce maintenance on your koi pond or water garden over time. Nets can be stored and only used in the fall when the leaves are turning color and falling. Or they can be used year-round to reduce the amount of debris that falls into your pond. An added benefit is that a properly installed net can deter predators such as herons and other birds from getting to your fish.
September ushers in the beginning of fall, and with it comes milder days and cooler nights. This change from summer’s high temperatures affects stormwater systems in a variety of ways–here are just a few.
We recently completed a shoreline stabilization project for a client in Morrisville, North Carolina. Over time, the banks along the shoreline of this pond had degraded and eroded. This created steep banks that were not only unattractive but could also lead to further erosion over time.
We see this type of repair on ponds that have steep banks and are not stabilized very well. It can also develop on shorelines that are heavily shaded, with no turf coverage or aquatic plantings to help stabilize the area. In addition, waterfowl, such as geese, contribute to erosion by moving in and out of the pond. The constant travel on the steep banks adds to the problem. There are several methods that you can use to stabilize a steep shoreline or one that has erosion issues. Read on to learn more.
With the weather cooling down, now is the perfect time to be outside on the water. A great way to enjoy this time of year is to spend time with your family and friends on a private dock. Whether you use it for fishing or just hanging out, docks provide a simple way to enjoy being on the water.

CHANNEL CATFISH
Ictalurus punctatus
Channel Catfish is North America’s most numerous catfish species. They are often used to increase the general productivity of a pond without competing with the other fish. They can be stocked anytime but do not usually reproduce in ponds unless spawning containers are provided. Channel catfish grow quickly, are fun to catch, and are delicious to eat. They are an excellent choice for smaller ponds.
